Gamador Avlu
Ankara / Türkiye, 2023
Gamador Avlu is a multifunctional living project implemented on two separate plots located side by side in the Ovacık region. In the project, an alternative concept has been developed to the traditional road front commercial unit – rear front residential unit distinction, breaking away from the dominant construction approach in the region.

The commercial strip along the road frontage has been designed as a courtyard layout that draws users inside, rather than a linear façade, thus creating a public space that blends in with the street. This open-air commercial courtyard, with its dining and shopping functions, maintains its vibrancy at different times of the day, serving as a social hub. It also acts as a buffer zone, supporting the privacy of the residential areas.
The residential block of the project is positioned to establish a visual and physical connection with Kartaltepe Park, located on the adjacent plot, offering a lifestyle intertwined with nature through private gardens opening onto the park. This design is not only aesthetic but also an environmental strategy that supports the local microclimate.

Gamador AVLU offers a spatial approach that breathes new life into the urban fabric, prioritises the use of open spaces and encourages social interaction. It is not just a building, but a way of life.
